This course enables students to gain an understanding of the legal system and the part played by the main professionals. There is no specific requirement for prior learning and it is envisaged that for all students this will be a new subject area. The specification provides a suitable foundation for the study of law at university and beyond. Full-time students study this subject in combination with other AS/A Levels. AS Level is taught in the first year and students, if successful, can progress to the A2 Level which is taught in the second year. The recommended text for AS is 'The English Legal System' by Jacqueline Martin and for A2, the recommendation is 'Criminal Law for A2' by the same author. There are a number of books in the library as well as magazines such as 'The Law Student Review'. IT material is on the College's Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment (NCD Online).
