AS/A Level English Literature

Course Description

The aim of this course is to encourage you to develop your interest and enthusiasm in the enjoyment of literature and literary studies. You will read widely and independently both set texts and other texts you have selected. You will engage creatively with a substantial body of texts in different genres: poetry, novels, drama and short stories, and ways of responding to them. Skills and knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation in speech and writing will be effectively developed. An important aspect of the course is the exploration of the contexts, for example, historical, political, cultural and biographical, of the texts you will study and other readers' interpretation of them. Some of the texts for study will be provided but you will need to buy some of the texts. Visits to the theatre to see productions of texts studied are arranged where possible and there will be a small, reasonable cost incurred for these. The Library has a good selection of books and other resources. ILT material is on the English Literature section of the College Virtual Learning Environment - NCD Online. Students provide their own paper, files and pens. Level: A Level Credit Value: 140 Accredited by: OCR Awarded by: OCR
