Business Studies considers small to medium-sized businesses operating within national markets. It covers issues involved in starting-up a business, such as market research and planning and then once a business is up and running how might it improve its effectiveness. If you enjoy TV programmes such as Dragon’s Den and The Apprentice then you will enjoy this course. When and how will I study? The course lasts 2 years (you gain an AS Level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A Level after successfully completing Year 2) The programme commences in September, at the 6th form site, studied on a daytime basis. The lessons involve 4.5 hours class per week. You will also be required to spend time in the learning resource centre and also undertake additional homework. The taught lessons will consist of lectures, individual study, group work, investigations, tests, assignment work and a range of other activities. A range of external visits will be set up which you may participate in.

Most successful students in the subject want to pursue the subject at degree level. Career opportunities are vast, from public sector administration, marketing and retail, teaching and accountancy. There is also the option to start your own business.
