A Level Chemistry

Course Description

The course is divided into chemical topics, each containing different key concepts of: • Atoms • Bonds and groups • Chains • Energy and resources Once the key features of a chemical topic have been developed, applications are considered. For assessment purposes, knowledge and understanding of key concepts are treated separately in the first year. Teaching of practical skills is integrated with the theoretical topics and developed regularly. When and how will I study? The full A-Level is 2 years (you gain an AS Level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A Level after successfully completing Year 2) The programme will commence in September, at the SciTech Centre, in the Chemistry laboratories. You will be taught for 4hours 40minutes a week in four 1hour 10minute sessions. The exact times will depend on the rest of your timetable. Study will take the form of lectures, group work, practical laboratory classes, study assignments and homework.

A Level Chemistry is practical for many degree courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Forensic Science, Environmental Science and Engineering.
