Course Description

​Incorporating disability and inclusion studies, eco-education and early childhood studies, this course offers you the opportunity to explore a range of issues within an area of great social, economic, cultural, environmental and political significance. You will develop your ability to examine these issues in an objective and intellectually-rigorous way. Highlights Particular expertise in the areas of special educational needs, disability and social inclusion, eco-education and early childhood Element of work-based learning and independent study Range of assessment methods, for example, portfolios of work, essays, presentations and research reports This course can be taken either full time or part time. Lecturers and tutors are involved and lead on national and international research projects in Education. They have linked publications which are used to inform the teaching and subject input at Plymouth University and Education Studies degrees nationally. The programme has links with Universities in Canada, Africa, Spain and USA and works closely with the International Students Exchange Programme.

This course is appropriate to those contemplating a career in teaching and/or related education, social and caring professions. Many graduates opt to further their studies and we offer a wide range of postgraduate programmes and expertise: all academic staff have research interests and postgraduate or doctoral qualifications. Those whose ambitions lie within environmental education and the social and caring professions will find the course extremely relevant and a stepping stone to a professional postgraduate course. We run an Information Literacy, Personal and Career Development curriculum alongside the course aimed at enabling you to develop and log graduate skills and make informed decisions about your future. We also hold an Education Studies Futures Event each year for Stage 2 and 3 students to provide information and guidance on future career paths.
