Course Description

An opportunity to develop and consolidate knowledge and skills within the challenging but important area of the children’s workforce. Following Every Child Matters and the 2004 Children's Act, we are required to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative way in order to improve outcomes for all children and young people. This course will help you to explore and prepare for the realities of successful interagency working as we strive to achieve the best for children and young people in our care. It will lead to a graduate quaification after 3 years, but there is also has a named Higher Education Diploma in Education Studies for students who wish to exit after 2 years. The course is delivered in a way which is directly relevant to the workplace. Students have the opportunity to spend time learning within their chosen setting, by undertaking action research, observation and reflecting on their work as well as the work of others Students might be working in Education provision, in Children's Centres, Social Services, healthcare, and the Third Sector (charity, voluntary and non-profit organisations) as well as for child-minders, foster carers and parent support workers.

Career outcomes

This degree is relevant for those working at assistant level within the Children’s Workforce*, and can lead to promotion in their existing context or to further career pathways in different areas of the children's workforce e.g. Children's Services, Education, Social Work and Youth Work, Police, Therapies and Health. * e.g. Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors, Cover Supervisors, Nursery staff, Family support workers. Further study On graduation, students may study for a PGCE or other teaching qualification, Social work qualifications, or embark on a Master's qualification.
