Business Studies B.A

Course Description

The degree course should above all convey: in-depth specialist and methodological knowledge, application-oriented knowledge of practical relevance, scientific approaches and attitudes, ability to think in an analytical, conceptual and methodological way, ability to communicate and cooperate with others and knowledge of a business language. The degree course is aimed at the ‘moderately specialised generalist’, who gains not only in-depth specialist and methodological knowledge but also key qualifications and key competences. The curriculum is an intelligently modified version of the 'Bremen Model' with its transparent and internationally comparable modular structure and its well-defined qualification objectives. In each semester, five modules and a series of module tutorials are to be completed. The duration of the course covers an internship and seven semesters. In the first four semesters, the general foundation of the BWL (Business Administration), VWL (Economics), law, social sciences, mathematics, statistics, computer science, tax and the English language are conveyed. Following this is the internship, which takes place in the fifth semester and can be attended nationally or internationally, and includes a preparation and closing module. The specialisation of two main topics with four modules each is covered in the sixth and seventh semesters. For the following main topics, there is a broad range of possible options available for eight specialisation variations offered: marketing and distribution, finance and banking sectors, business information technology, controlling, logistics, taxation and auditing, accounting, human resources management.

Career outcomes

The quality and design of the course itself ensure students get a successful start to their career. The aim of the course is to produce a "general" business administrator who acquires a sound basic knowledge in all business areas in the first four semesters and who specialises in two fields in the last two semesters. The course incorporates the following: In-depth specialist and methodological knowledge, • Application-oriented knowledge of practical relevance, • Scientific approaches and attitudes, • Ability to think in an analytical, conceptual and methodological way, • Ability to communicate and cooperate with others and • Knowledge of a business language. Our graduates are thus able to support the management in the various areas of business administration and to take on positions in line management or management positions on practically all levels or also to work independently on their own business i.e. on a freelance basis. The possible range of occupations depends on the specialisation chosen but comprises the classical business administration functions (i.e. accounting and controlling; financial management; marketing and distribution; organisation, business information technology and logistics; human resources management; business auditing and taxation).
