This qualification is intended to prepare learners for employment in the IT sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a specific area of work. It is also suitable, however, for those who wish to use these skills in other areas. The programme is designed to provide some of the underpinning knowledge and understanding for the National Occupational Standards (NOS), in IT as well as developing practical skills in preparation for work and further study. Students are assessed through Coursework, a Portfolio of Evidence, and Task-based assessments and observations.

This qualification will allow learners to progress, for example, to Level 2 qualifications, apprenticeships or skilled employment, or to supported employment. Learners may progress to QCF units available at Levels 2 and 3.
