Level 1 Professional Catering and Hospitality

Course Description

This is a professional cookery and/or food service course where you will learn the foundations of professional cookery, restaurant service, food hygiene and safety. The course covers practical skills and underpinning knowledge to enable candidates to progress to further study and/or gain employment in the catering and hospitality sector. The qualifications are achieved by passing ongoing assessments of your ability in the kitchens and restaurant over the length of the course, completing assignments issued throughout the year, and answering questions that test your knowledge. The questions are available through an online testing system. All assessments, assignments and questions are done when the learners are ready to attempt them, allowing you to work at your own pace within certain limits.

Career outcomes

Learners should consider progressing to the next course to increase their knowledge and skills in the kitchen and restaurant and further enhance their employment prospects. Learners typically progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery or Hospitality & Food Service qualification. (Level 1 Foundation learners normally progress to other Level 1 courses first). Alternatively, some learners choose to find employment and complete a Level 2 Workbased Apprenticeship.
