Course Description

Do you want a career in one of the most exciting fields of engineering? Are you a potential high flier? This Aeronautical Engineering BEng(Hons) enables you to develop specialist aeronautical engineering knowledge, supported by a solid foundation of mechanical engineering knowledge and skills. The industrial relevance of the course is enhanced by staff who are actively engaged with local industry and in conducting industrially relevant research. The engineering industry is vast and employment opportunities are far from limited to the UK; because of this, all of our students have the opportunity to study modern European languages including French, German and Spanish. This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) as partially meeting the educational requirements stage for chartered engineer status (CEng). To fully satisfy the educational needs for chartered status, you will need to also complete a relevant accredited masters programme.

Careers and employability This degree is very popular in industry and consequently our graduates have a good employment record. In a world where experience is increasingly sought after by employers, the placement year puts you at a significant advantage when approaching the job market. Recent graduates have gone on to jobs including mechanical engineer at McAlpine Helicopters Ltd, logistics administrator for Lucas Aerospace and trainee graduate engineer at MSX International. After satisfactory completion of their undergraduate study, some graduates choose to go on to further study or research at MSc or PhD level.
