Course Description

Do you want a career in one of the most exciting fields of engineering? Are you a potential high flier? This course enables you to develop specialist aeronautical engineering knowledge, supported by a solid foundation of mechanical engineering knowledge and skills. Brighton has some of the longest-running and most successful engineering foundation courses in the UK. This course, which includes an integrated foundation year, is ideal if you don't have scientific A-levels or alternative qualifications, are changing career, or missed out on the grades required for direct entry. You will complete the foundation year before progressing to the full degree course. The industrial relevance of the course is enhanced by staff who are actively engaged with local industry and in conducting industrially-relevant research. On graduation, you will be well-placed for a range of interesting careers in the aerospace sector. The foundation year aspect of this course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as a suitable pathway into the BEng(Hons) degrees at the university. Aeronautical Engineering at Brighton is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) as partially meeting the educational requirements stage for Chartered Engineer (CEng). To fully satisfy the educational needs for chartered status, you will need to also complete a relevant accredited masters programme.

Careers and employability This degree is very popular in industry and consequently our graduates have a good employment record. Recent graduates have gone on to jobs including mechanical engineer at McAlpine Helicopters Ltd, logistics administrator for Lucas Aerospace and trainee graduate engineer at MSX International. Graduates are also well placed to go on to further study or research at the university or elsewhere.
