(Access to Higher Education Diploma) Nursing and Allied Health Professions

Course Description

Access to HE Diplomas are designed to prepare mature learners for higher education (HE). They have been specifically designed for people who may have little in the way of formal educational qualifications, but who bring to the course a variety of life and work experience, a desire to learn and a willingness to study. In addition to studying the core modules, you will have the opportunity to study literacy, numeracy and information technology, GCSE English and GCSE Maths. A supportive learning environment is provided by using a variety of methods, including classroom-based teaching, group and individual tutorials, group discussions, debates and presentations. Alongside the classroom-based teaching, this programme will also incorporate a blend of virtual learning (online tutorials and assessments).

Career outcomes

In the past, students have progressed onto university courses, such as: diplomas in nursing (adult, child and mental health), and degrees in nursing, midwifery, biological sciences, biotechnology, forensic sciences/anthropology, occupational therapy, prosthetics/orthotics, operating department practitioner and psychology. Many of these courses say that relevant paid or voluntary work experience would be an advantage. Career opportunities exist in various branches of nursing and allied health professions.
