(Access to Higher Education Diploma) Engineering

Course Description

Access to HE Diplomas are designed to prepare mature learners for higher education (HE). They have been specifically designed for people who may have little in the way of formal educational qualifications, but who bring to the course a variety of life and work experience, a desire to learn and a willingness to study. A supportive learning environment is provided by using a variety of methods, including lectures, workshops, laboratory sessions, tutorials, group work and private study, based on a weekly timetable. The course is made up of four modules:- - Core - Maths - Computer science - Engineering` All units are assessed and graded. Assessment is continuous and ranges from seminars, written and practical tests and project work.

Career outcomes

In the past, students have progressed onto university courses and careers in: manufacturing engineering, automobile engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, IT, software engineering computations and various degrees in applied sciences. The department has excellent contacts with the University of Salford, the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Bolton.
