Information Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach for applying engineering principles to all types of system development themes such as; design, modelling, re-engineering, construction, and ensuring production of successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs, required functionality and on-time delivery within budget, while considering the robustness of the system. This course is designed by St Patrick's. Course content The BSc (Hons) Information Systems Engineering degree is aimed at enabling students to apply system engineering skills to develop core information systems. These skills are applicable in commercial software engineering as well as the scientific computing field. The system engineering skills acquired during this programme will enable students to start a career in the software development industry as a business analyst, software engineer, software developer or computer programmer. The knowledge and skills developed in this programme will help students understand the fundamental concepts as well as advanced techniques in Software Engineering. It will also provide experience in the designing and programming required for small, medium and large scale projects. It is a well-balanced course, which will give a strong grounding in the general computing field, in addition to advanced software development knowledge, essential for a career in the fast-changing world of software development. Students who wish to leave the programme after successfully completing Year 1 will be able to achieve a HE Certificate in Computing award. Students who wish to exit the programme after successfully completing Year 2 will be eligible for an HE Diploma in Information Systems Engineering award. Students who successfully complete 300 credits over the 3 year period may be eligible to exit with a BSc award.

There are very good career and entrepreneurial opportunities for those interested in software engineering, software development, website development and application development. Alternatively, students successfully completing this course can proceed directly to a postgraduate degree.
