Course Description

Today, marketing permeates all organisations. As such, marketing is referred to as an orientation rather than merely an organisational department. The aim of marketing-orientated companies is to produce customer satisfaction. This specialist course will help you understand the marketing requirements for all types of organisations. It will guide you through specialisms such as marketing research, consumer behaviour, integrated marketing communications, digital media and international marketing. It will help you to appreciate marketing in a wider context through consideration of aspects such as ethics, social marketing, corporate social responsibility and stakeholder and shareholder interests. You will also develop your communication and presentation skills, creative management and problem solving skills, and numeric ability. All modules on this degree combine theoretical perspectives with current industry practice and a number include guest speakers and/or industry visits. Modules such as Marketing Strategy and Planning involve ‘live case studies’ with major international firms. You will also be given the opportunity to undertake a consultancy role with a British-based company. This practical emphasis on marketing skills will be reflected in a number of assessed activities, such as putting together your own advertising campaign in the Integrated Marketing Communications and Public Relations modules.

Career outcomes

This course will equip you for a career in the marketing arena in areas such as corporate marketing, advertising, public relations and market research. You will be studying a range of modules – such as consumer behaviour, integrated marketing communications, public relations and digital media – which allow you to focus your career in a specific area of marketing, which can then assist you in finding related employment. The course will also give you a firm foundation for employment in general management, covering business in a wider context through subjects such as ethics, corporate social responsibility and supply chain management and logistics. Studying the BA (Hons) Marketing will enable you to develop a wide range of employability skills through the emphasis on a vocational approach to teaching, which includes live case studies with major global firms. If you choose to undertake the (optional) Placement route with a British-based company where you can gain valuable industry experience, your employment prospects will improve further. Recent graduates from this course have gone onto jobs such as: Advertising Account Executive, Global Event Assistant, Marketing Research Analyst, Search Engine Marketing Junior Account Manager, Alumni Marketing Assistant and Content Management Assistant. If you graduate from this course, you will be able to apply for further study at postgraduate level, and the academic strength of this course means that you can also consider entering the field of academic research.
