BA (Hons) Housing Studies

Course Description

BA (Hons) Housing Studies focuses on the policy, management and economic aspects of housing in a UK and European context. The course covers housing law, housing development and housing management. You'll gain the necessary skills to enable you to successfully work within the housing sector. From your classes and group projects you will develop invaluable experiences of team and individual working that will give you the professional confidence to sell your skills in an interview and make a strong contribution in the workplace. In the first year we run a three-day field trip study visit to Birmingham. The field trip explores different urban regeneration schemes and their impact on social housing residents. In the second year you will attend a European field trip. In past years this has been to Amsterdam. In the third year you visit another UK-based housing renewal project. Field study visits are a compulsory and very valuable part of the London South Bank University study experience. Field study visit fees are included in the tuition fees.

Career outcomes

This course focuses on the policy, management and economic aspects of housing in a UK and European context and covers housing law, housing development and housing management and will prepare you for a range of careers within the housing sector. The programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and you will gain the necessary skills to enable you to successfully work within both private and social housing roles in areas such as housing development and management, frontline housing support services, management posts in Local Authorities and Registered Social Landlords (RSL). Recent graduates from this course have gone onto roles such as Case Management Coordinator, Housing Officer and Neighbourhood Manager. If you graduate from this course, you will be able to apply for further study at postgraduate level, including our full-time or part-time MA Housing Studies. LSBU is committed to supporting you develop your employability and succeed in getting a job after you have graduated.
