Exercise Science

Course Description

Exercise Science professionals are knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas, including, but not limited to: exercise physiology, health & fitness assessment, strength & conditioning, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and sports psychology. As members of the health care community, Exercise Science specialists are dedicated to health enhancement and are responsible for the development and coordination of exercise programs as well as the training and education of patients and clients. Using exercise as a preventative and/or rehabilitative tool, jobs in Exercise Science include activities in athletic, community, hospital, clinic, fitness center, and academic settings. The Exercise Science program at Lasell College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for quality of undergraduate student preparation for entry into the Exercise Sciences profession. Moreover, Lasell College’s Exercise Science program is endorsed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for strength and conditioning education. Therefore, successful completion of the Exercise Science program will prepare students to sit for certification examinations offered by the ACSM & NSCA. Upon successful completion of the Exercise Science Program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the Athletic Training and Exercise Science Department. The Athletic Training and Exercise Science Department at Lasell College offers small class sizes led by faculty with a wide variety of experience and expertise in the field. Moreover, through our faculty’s professional connections and the outstanding allied health programs accessible in the greater Boston area, the Department offers personalized field experiences with low instructor-to-student ratios. Majors in Athletic Training and Exercise Science and a minor in Coaching are offered within the Athletic Training and Exercise Science Department. The department offers challenging curriculums accompanied by extensive field experience designed to meet the professional goals of each student. Courses within the department of Athletic Training and Exercise Science are structured to emphasize our connected learning philosophy, engaged and hands-on approaches to learning, where students acquire knowledge and skills through visual and kinesthetic application.
