Athletic Training

Course Description

Athletic Trainers are allied health professionals who provide health care to a physically active population. Patient care includes, but is not limited to: Prevention and Health Promotion, Clinical Examination and Diagnosis of injury and illness, Acute Care of Injury and Illness, Therapeutic Interventions and Psychosocial Strategies and Referral. Graduates, upon successful completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) Exam are recognized by the American Medical Association as Allied Health Professionals, and are eligible for employment in a wide variety of settings including high schools, colleges and universities, professional sports, sports medicine clinics, non-profit athletic organizations, outpatient clinics, fitness and wellness centers, corporations and hospitals. The Athletic Training Education Program at Lasell College is a competency-based program designed to provide professional preparation leading toward eligibility to take the national Board of Certification (BOC) exam. The program is fully accredited under the guidelines set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) provides students with a comprehensive competency based education focusing on mastery of skills within 8 content areas as developed by The Professional Education Council (PEC) of the NATA in conjunction with The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Proficiency of the skill within the 8 content areas provides the entry–level athletic trainer with the capacity to provide athletic training services to clients and patients of varying ages, lifestyles, and needs. Upon successful completion of the Athletic Training Education Program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the Athletic Training and Exercise Science Department.
