Course Description

Gain an understanding of the creative process through practical art and design skills before embarking on further studies at a more specialised level. During this introductory year you will develop an understanding of the creative design process through practical art and design skills. At the same time we will help you establish good study skills for this and further programmes. Practical skills are taught in 2D and 3D drawing, digital design, painting, photography, graphics, workshop skills, woodworking, casting techniques, use of recycled material and folio presentation. You are also introduced to techniques for successful academic study with the opportunity to develop these skills within the foundation history course. This module looks at the theory of design giving you an understanding of how art and design is produced, distributed and consumed with real examples from the local art and design scene. Career outcomes

This programme has been designed to prepare you for further tertiary study in either art or design. Although, this programme is ideal preparation for our Bachelor of Design, however successful completion of the Certificate in Design does not give automatic entry to the degree, you must apply and submit your portfolio.
