The department offers the major and a minor in English. Early consultation with an advisor is recommended especially for students intending to seek admission to graduate studies after graduation from AIC and for those seeking state certification in Secondary Education in English. Student intending to teach English in secondary schools must have two majors (English and Secondary Education) and work with advisors in each field.

English majors obtain jobs in a wide range of areas including writing, editing, publishing and teaching. Graduates also develop the analytical skills necessary to be successful in business and other fields including public relations, marketing and advertising.
