Course Description

The Master's in Accounting and Taxation (MSAT) is a ten course, 30-credit graduate degree program for those individuals who wish to enhance their knowledge in the areas of tax and accounting. This rigorous program builds upon an undergraduate degree in accounting, providing the technical skills needed to provide tax and business advice in the private sector. The AIC program is also structured to allow individuals who do not hold undergraduate degrees in accounting to take the program and be successful. Our graduates are prepared to enter the professional world of consulting, and many of our students elect to take the CPA examination upon completion of our MSAT graduate program.

American International College's MSAT program prepares students for advanced positions in the field of accounting by exploring both fundamental and specialized topics, and combining accounting theory with practice. The curriculum familiarizes students with a wide range of current accounting issues, as well as the analytical approach necessary to make accountants effective business partners to senior management. Graduates may pursue a career in the following settings: an accounting firm an individual practice a member of a corporate accounting staff The 30 credit MSAT program is in conformity with the licensing requirements for state CPA examinations. Learning Objectives of the MSAT: 1. Impart technical skills in all of the major areas of accounting, including auditing, financial reporting, taxation, and control systems. 2. Become knowledgeable about important rulings and accounting standards and how they affect business decision making: Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAP) International Accounting Standards (ISA) Financial Accounting Standards (FASB) Law and practice of taxation and tax planning Sarbanes-Oxley 3. Understand the legal and ethical environment as it applies to the work of professional accountants. 4. Be familiar with the major sources of information on auditing, accounting, and taxation. 5. Demonstrate business communication, motivation, and influencing skills at the level of a professional manager and support these with effective verbal and written presentations. Advanced Auditing and Fraud Examination Control systems and investigative techniques to deter fraud and detect its occurrence. Comprehensive case analysis of financial statement fraud.
