Course Description

Requirements for teacher licensure are based on Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations. The programs in education are aligned with the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC). As such, these programs come under the interstate certification contract that provides licensure reciprocity with many participating states. American International College has introduced a new five-year program leading to a bachelor's degree in an arts & science area with a minor in education after four years, and a Master of Education degree with licensure after the fifth year. Students must undertake an arts or sciences major appropriate to the license sought and, upon acceptance into the education program, complete the courses, MTELS (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure) and experiences in teacher training necessary for the fulfillment of the requirements for NASDTEC credentialing and state licensure. Education programs are offered in early childhood, elementary, moderate disabilities, ten subjects on the middle/secondary level (Biology, Business, Chemistry, English, French, General Science, History, Mathematics, Political Science, and Spanish) and lead to initial teacher licensure in those areas.
