Course Details

Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering)

Course Description

Chemical engineers develop safe, efficient processes to convert raw materials into useful products as well as research and develop new technologies to solve current world problems. Chemical engineering is a career for now and the future. Our course is accredited by Engineers Australia, and this is recognised across Australia and internationally. What you will learn The course ranges from the fundamentals through to the design, development and commissioning of processes that ultimately convert raw materials into useful products. After a first year common to all engineering students, you will branch out to study subjects such as: * Analytical Chemistry * Process Analysis * Materials Science and Engineering * Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics * Engineering Project Management Laboratory and design work and the opportunity to work in teams with other engineering disciplines are key elements of this program. In Year 4, you will also complete a research and process design project where you design a full-scale processing plant. Industry relationships The discipline has a healthy and ongoing relationship with many of the major process industries in North Queensland. As a result, our research has a strong focus on issues important to the region’s economy. This research includes: * Improvements to sugar processing * copper electro-refining through modelling of fluid flow in electrolysis cells * solvent extraction and modelling solvent-solute effects * applied Process Systems Engineering.
