Career outcomes

Graduates from JCU’s Bachelor of Arts majoring Archaeology have many different and successful careers. The more training, volunteering and hands-on experience you can gain while studying, the better. If you complete the four-year Honours program you will be able to pursue roles such as consulting archaeologist, field archaeologist and cultural heritage officer. Archaeologists can specialise in areas that may need further study, for example, forensic archaeology, evolutionary archaeology or in particular geographic regions. They also pursue careers in research and university teaching. Many archaeologists in Australia work in the cultural heritage management field and use their expertise to minimise the impacts of mining and development projects on sites of cultural heritage significance. Archaeologists also work as consultants for, mining companies, national parks, Aboriginal land councils or heritage agencies involved with planning and environmental impact assessment.
