You will experience a general introduction to the theories, methods, findings and applications of modern scientific psychology. The topics you will study include history, methods, the nervous system, memory, cognition, intelligence, motivation and emotion, development, health psychology, personality and psychological disorders. Please note that the Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology is not an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited sequence. If you wish to complete an APAC accredited sequence of subjects you should seek advice from our expert staff. Choose JCU’s Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) if you want to become a registered psychologist. Students wishing to register as Psychologists should consult with academic staff for advice to ensure they choose the correct sequence of subjects, as the APAC sequence is not automatically part of the Bachelor Arts (Psychology) structure. Students who complete a four-year Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited sequence in Psychology are eligible to apply for conditional registration as psychologists with the Psychologists Board of Queensland.

As a graduate of the non-accredited psychology major (over three years or a fourth Honours year), you will be able to pursue a diverse range of careers in government and human services, business corporations and the health sector. Your skill set will be valued in areas such as marketing and advertising, professional writing and media, and human resources. Understanding the many factors that influence how people think and why they behave the way they do provides organisations with vital information that can be used to sell products, reach target markets and resolve disputes.
