JCU is home to the Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Research, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Capacity Building. There is a high demand for registered nurses in Australia, and the employment rate is expected to grow very strongly.* Nurses work in hospitals and many other settings including community health centres, industry, health care agencies, schools, the defence forces, government departments and non-government agencies such as the Red Cross. With further study you can become a specialist nurse in, for example, emergency, mental health, aged care, oncology, community health, rural and remote health or in health policy, research, management, education and workplace health and safety. The course is accredited with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). You will also be eligible for membership of the Australian College of Midwives and the Australian College of Nursing.
