China is one of the world’s great civilisations with a rich cultural heritage providing the backdrop to a dynamic contemporary society. In our programmes you will learn the Chinese language and study Chinese culture from a variety of different perspectives. Individual modules examine China’s history, society, religion and literature, both in ancient and in modern times. Students have the opportunity to complete a language programme in Mandarin and take a variety of modules relating to Chinese history and culture. The course does not require prior experience in China or of the Chinese language. The Education part of the Degree introduces students to various aspects of education policy, history and practice, and comprises of two modules of study per year over all three years of your degree. The modules have been specifically designed to align closely with the Humanities subjects and are delivered by the Faculty of Education and Training. Typical modules within the education spine include: Historical & Contemporary Issues in Education, Learning, Knowledge and Education and Culture, Identity and Education. In addition students during their second year of study will undertake a 20 credit teaching observation in a local school.
