Bachelor of Arts in Music

Course Description

Two things set Marietta's music program apart from what you'll find at other schools -- the sheer number of opportunities you will have to perform, and the strength of our faculty. From choirs to applied lessons to full-scale musical productions, you can express yourself musically and cultivate your talents -- and it all starts your freshman year. Along the way, you'll receive thorough preparation for graduate school or a career as a musician by studying and working closely with professors, who are active performers themselves. The Bachelor of Arts in Music program offers a well-rounded music education and the chance to focus on areas such as performance, composition, or historical research. After completing the required core courses, you can develop an elective program that reinforces the fields of music that interest you most. This combination helps to prepare you for work in the music profession or for graduate school.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is designed to develop well-rounded musical leaders while simultaneously allowing each student to experience a broad exposure to music study in a liberal arts context. After completing a core of required courses, students may elect to pursue a set of electives of their own choosing. The program is easily combinable with other majors and minors and is primarily designed for those students desiring to combine a more extensive study of music with degree studies in other fields such as Pre-Med, business, psychology, or history. Students may also apply to pursue a specialized certificate program in Vocal Pedagogy.
