Bachelor of Arts in Management

Course Description

Marietta's Management program produces graduates with the leadership skills today's managers need. As a major in the program, you'll study every aspect of management: information systems and technology, finance, operations, human resources, accounting, economics, marketing, and the legal environment. Then you'll learn what makes managers into leaders by taking advantage of the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business, where you'll work directly with leadership experts to work on your own leadership skills. In both the department and the McDonough Center, you'll have the opportunity to see, hear, and meet with distinguished academic, business and government leaders, making connections that will last long after you leave Marietta. As seniors, majors select one of two capstone courses, both of which integrate the knowledge that students have learned in their courses in accounting, human resource management, marketing, finance, and management and that exercise their research and communication skills. MNGT 453 focuses on corporations in international and domestic contexts. In MNGT 451 student teams work as consultants to local businesses. In these capstone courses, students examine a business strategy, and the execution of that strategy, as a major vehicle for sustaining and enhancing a firm’s competitive advantage in the complexities and constraints of the environments in which it operates. Student teams report their findings in a public presentation and make recommendations to enhance the performance of a business or corporation. The Management faculty bring significant international experience to the classroom. Most have lived, worked, and studied in countries as diverse as Brazil, China, and the United Kingdom. While they are first and foremost teachers, they are also active researchers who involve you in their projects.
