Art (Studio Track)

Course Description

This program allows art students to have both a major and a minor in Art, culminating with 70 credit hours within the Art area. Courses within a selected area of focus help to develop BFA candidates' artwork and style; they also help the candidates to envision their own potential contributions to society as artists of faith. Exhibition of artwork in this program is encouraged and expected. The development of a body of cohesive work and ideas is essential for selling artwork and for gallery representation. This is one of the goals for this program. Another program goal is to prepare the fine artists for graduate school. Within the structure of the BFA program, students should be able to prepare a portfolio of work and to understand and discuss their artwork so that they can be accepted into a graduate school for advanced study in painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, or ceramics.

Career outcomes

Evangel's academic programs are designed specifically to prepare you for a career in the real world. But it's more than just job preparation; it's preparing you to make a full impact in your profession through the unique combination of faith and learning. Here are some of the professions this degree would prepare you for: The fine arts are a complex field from a career standpoint, primarily because the fine artist is often his or her own employer and promoter. Because it may take many years to develop a career as a successful artist, most graduates initially seek ways of earning a living other than from sales of their own personal work, while still maintaining and developing their own work. This takes determination and perseverance with no strictly defined career path. The choices are highly individual. This might mean a position in an arts organization or a design-support position. Several types of employers or industries can provide career opportunities for a fine artist. Here are a few: Art museums/Galleries Art Therapy programs (would need an MA degree) Photography studios Fashion/Textile or Interior Design firms
