An applied mathematics major consists of a concentration in mathematics and a second concentration in one of the following: physics, biology, chemistry, or environmental science. It normally requires four years to complete. High school preparation should include pre-calculus or college algebra/trig and upper level science courses. Students learn to exhibit analytical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as specialized fields of scientific knowledge.
