Course Description

The curriculum for the BFA in Graphic Design broadens the student’s abilities in the areas of layout design, use of typography, communication and language skills, use of grid systems in design, and appropriate computer skills needed for the graphic design field. Within the structure of the Graphic Design I-IV courses, students learn basic and advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Within this course structure, their work on formal problems helps to develop layout skills, dedication with discipline, and craftsmanship. Graphic Design IV is devoted to time management and development of a portfolio. Candidates for the BFA degree are encouraged to take additional courses in photography, marketing/business, Web design, studio problems and creative problems in graphic design, typography, graphic design internship, and problems in art history (graphic design). Through all of this, the graphic design student with a BFA degree should develop a competitive portfolio and be able to find employment within the field or be able to enter into graduate school for an advanced degree.
