The Evangel University Department of Science and Technology is dedicated to the spiritual, academic and social growth of every student. The department’s purpose is to provide an excellent scientific education that is thoroughly integrated with the University’s emphasis on the development of strong Christian character. Within this framework, students must contend with new scientific, social, ethical and technological challenges. Students learn to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively and exhibit analytical thinking and problem solving skills. The Biology major is designed to produce biological scientists who are capable of working independently as well as part of a team. Classes are designed to promote students’ comprehension at various levels (environmental, organismal, cellular and molecular) and include critical evaluation of biological science literature to foster skills in assessing scientific information. Students are provided with practical experiences through laboratory and field studies in biology courses. Students are strongly encouraged to gain career-related experience prior to graduation in the form of work studies, internships or summer research opportunities. The Biology major prepares students for careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy or as a physician assistant.
