BA (Hons) Media, Culture and Journalism

Course Description

In the first year, key themes in media, culture and journalism are introduced through detailed study of the practices and theory of newspapers, cinema, television, the internet, popular music and other media forms. You will engage in discussions and workshops, and have the option of including a media production module that puts theory into practice. In the second year, you will explore in depth the relationship between media and audiences, the power of media institutions, the reach of international media and the nature of media cultures. Specialist training in media research skills is available and you can take a media production module. You will complete a dissertation on a topic of your choice in your final year and choose modules that reflect the interests and expertise you have developed. Specialist modules (subject to availability) include Music in the Digital Age, Masculinities, Media and Business, Media and Culture in Wales and Press Relations.
