Course Description

MSc Civil and Structural Engineering is accredited for the Further Learning Programme (formerly ‘Matching Sections’) at Chartered Engineer (CEng) level by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE). The course has been embedded for Chartered Engineer (CEng) level by the Institution of Civil Engineers. Having the ICE CEng requirements embedded on our MScs means that for those working, we are able to identify individual requirements for a tailor-made route towards CEng status early, and therefore accelerate the remaining steps by working with the employer in the process. This applies to students who begin studying in September and February. All design-related modules are taught in accordance with the new structural Eurocodes to provide the latest specialist knowledge and technical competences. As well as developing your analytical and problem-solving skills, the course covers project planning and contract management training, which are crucial to the success of any civil and structural engineering work. * Advanced Civil Engineering Materials * Integrative Project Planning and Management * Geo-Environmental Engineering * Advanced Structural Analysis and Seismic Design * Advanced Structural Design * Dissertation (60 credits) Optional * Fatigue and Fracture* * Further Finite Analysis* * Further Computational Fluid Dynamics* * Non-Destructive Testing* * Design Of Composite, Masonry and Timber Structures * Independent Study For Engineers *10 credits The above information is a sample module description for illustrative purposes.
