As a joint honours student, you will study a mix of criminology and law options throughout the course. Each year (worth 120 credits), you will be required to evenly split your module choices between the two disciplines. Year One Introducing you to the main concepts of criminology and law, in your first year you are required to choose any three of the four specified criminology modules and a further three modules in law. Criminology modules: * Understanding Crime, Criminals and Victims * Understanding Criminal Justice * Researching Crime and Criminal Justice 1 * Criminological Theory Recommended law modules: * Constitutional and Administrative Law * Criminal Law * Legal Skills, Sources and Methods Year Two Your second year will allow you to focus on key issues surrounding criminology and law, during this year you will be able to study three criminology modules from the below criminology modules choices. The remaining three modules must be from the joint subject of law. Criminology modules: * Researching Crime and Criminal Justice 2 * Policing * Contemporary Issues in Drug Misuse * Understanding Youth Crime * Riots, Protests and Public Disorder * Penology: Punishment, Prisons and Offender Management Recommended law modules: * Contractual Obligations * Law of Real Property * Tortious Obligations Year Three In your final year you will be able to choose from a series of specialist modules allowing you to draw your attention to an area which interests you. You will be able to select a total of 60 credits from each discipline. Please note: *denotes 10 credit modules, all other listed modules are worth 20 credits. The course gives you a solid foundation for professional training in social work, probation, youth justice, youth and community work and research. Other popular career routes include the police, prison service and other criminal justice agencies, as well as protection and victim support services. From probation officers to solicitors, our recent graduates have attained positions in a variety of roles across the country. The ability to master two academic subjects demonstrates a high level of organisational skill and enables you to enter a variety of rewarding careers. Besides gaining knowledge of two complementary subjects, you will develop key skills that employers value such as evaluating evidence and making conclusions, writing reports, the application of IT and the confidence to present logical reasoned arguments.
