The University of Wales, Newport is one of only a few institutions in the United Kingdom that offers a BEng (Hons)in Fire Safety Engineering. Fire Engineering is the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules and expert judgement, based on an understanding of the phenomena and effects of fire and of the reaction and behaviour of people to fire, the understanding of which helps to protect people, property and the environment from its destructive effects. With increasing instances of tragedy and disaster relating to fire and its impact not only on human life but also on the environment and the economy, an in-depth understanding of the complexities behind prevention, analysis and the impact of fire is essential in reducing risk.
