Communication design is about the delivery of ideas and information through design and affects all aspects of how we understand and interact with the world around us. This programme offers a broad grounding in the principles of design, with a focus on the core areas of graphic design, illustration, photography and digital media. You will develop your own creative approach, plus the cross-cultural and strategic-thinking skills required for a successful career in this exciting global sector. (This programme was formerly known as BA (Hons) Visual Communication).

You will develop the analytical, strategic, creative and production skills needed by the contemporary design practitioner. You will develop your appreciation of global cultural contexts and contemporary design practices, and interact with the design industry. The programme will give you: Understanding of communication design, principles, practices and professional standards The ability to apply contemporary design methods and theory to communication briefs The ability to select and use appropriate materials, tools and techniques in both traditional and new media The opportunity to develop expertise in specialist areas such as photography, drawing, digital editing, design layout and production Research, critical analysis and problem-solving skills Future opportunities The programme will prepare you for a creative career in a broad range of professional roles in areas such as graphic design, illustration, photography, advertising, art direction, publishing, animation, multi-media and web design. Several of our recent graduates have continued onto postgraduate level study in subjects including visual communication, photography and graphic design, attending institutions such as The Royal College of Art, New York Film Institute, UCA Rochester, and London College of Communication.
