Business, Accountancy & Public Relations BA (Hons)

Course Description

This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of accountancy and public relations. Business results are regularly communicated to a range of stakeholders including internal experts, external markets and the broader public. This degree will prepare you well for specialist careers in accountancy, finance, and public and corporate communications Accountancy is a key business discipline. It underpins decision-making in all organisations. Every organisation, from the largest business to the smallest charity, is required to produce financial accounts, analysis, audits and strategies. Accountancy involves evaluating live situations and making real-time decisions. It also plays a central role in procurement and resourcing so that organisations can function profitably and sustainably. Our BA (Hons) degree in Business, Accountancy & Public Relations will entitle you to exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Public Relations entails technical tasks, such as organising events and trade fairs, drawing up briefs for photo shoots and corporate websites, writing a press release or other company literature such as a company report. However, public relations is also an essential management function which requires practitioners to undertake research, develop objectives and plan campaigns strategically. You will explore hands-on practical aspects of public relations as well as gaining a comprehensive understanding of strategic aspects of reputation management, thus preparing you to make a valuable contribution to the senior management of an organisation. This course is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). CIPR recognition confirms that course content has been assessed to provide relevant skills and knowledge development towards a career in public relations or communications. Knowledge of both Accountancy and PR will enable you to develop a very appealing and diverse skillset which will enable you to ‘stand out’ to employers. This degree will signal a candidate who is an authoritative and persuasive communicator, who can think analytically as well as creatively, and interpret and use numerical data. You will also learn how to make logical decisions; to interpret and use management information; to manage time, projects and resources; to work effectively as a member of a team with the ability to lead and inspire others; to be self-reliant; to use initiative and to champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business. This degree is taught by qualified accountants who are active business consultants; and by PR practitioners with experience of international, political, sport and public sector PR. During your course you will also have the opportunity to take a paid placement year in industry and study overseas at one of our partner universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe.
