Course Description

Covering areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, business law, audit and corporate finance, this degree is professionally accredited by the IFA (the Institute of Financial Accountants). It also enables you to claim exemptions from the CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accounting) qualifications and to obtain Sage 50 accounts certification. It is an ideal preparation for a career in banking, insurance, corporate or personal finance, financial analysis or as a trainee accountant. It will also be highly attractive if you are considering a career in general management and as preparation for a senior management role as your career progresses. Accountancy is a key business discipline. It underpins decision-making in all organisations. Every organisation, from the largest business to the smallest charity, is required to produce financial accounts, analysis, audits and strategies. It involves evaluating live situations and making real-time decisions. It also plays a central role in procurement and resourcing so that organisations can function profitably and sustainably. Our BA (Hons) degree in Accounting will mark you out as an intelligent, numerate accounting specialist and will be particularly attractive to employers in the highly paid financial sector and in general management. In addition to becoming familiar with accounting techniques, you will develop strong numeracy, analytical, problem-solving and logical decision-making skills. You will also learn to interpret and use management information; to manage time, projects and resources; to think creatively; to work effectively as a member of a team; to be self-reliant; to use initiative and to champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business. This degree is taught by finance specialists with consultancy and management experience in investment banking, corporate rescue and international manufacturing; and by qualified accountants who are active business consultants. During your course you will also have the opportunity to take a paid placement year in industry and study overseas at one of our partner universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe.
