Business, Accountancy & Human Resource Management BA (Hons)

Course Description

This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Accountancy and Human Resource Management (HRM) - two of the principal business functions which drive organisational success. This course is ideal preparation for a career in accountancy, finance, general business management/consultancy or HRM where managing the financial costs of recruiting, training, retaining, developing and rewarding staff are critical determinants of profitability. Accountancy is a key business discipline. It underpins decision-making in all organisations. Every organisation, from the largest business to the smallest charity, is required to produce financial accounts, analysis, audits and strategies. It involves evaluating live situations and making real-time decisions. It also plays a central role in procurement and resourcing so that organisations can function profitably and sustainably. Our BA (Hons) Business, Accountancy & Human Resource Management degree will entitle you to exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Human Resource Management explores the management of a diverse workforce and of individual and corporate behaviours and cultures within a local, national and international context. Human Resource specialists need to support people working in different functional areas, so the opportunity to combine your study of Human Resource Management alongside Accountancy is especially relevant to understanding how Human Resource practitioners work. This degree is mapped against the core knowledge requirements of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in order to help you prepare for work in the HR profession. Knowledge of both Accounting and HRM will enable you to think creatively and strategically and to acquire both soft ‘people’ and hard ‘financial’ management skills. You will develop numeracy and analytical skills alongside leadership and team-working capabilities. You will learn to make logical decisions; to interpret and use management information; to manage time, projects and resources; to be self-reliant; to use initiative and to champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business. This degree is taught by qualified accountants and HRM specialists who are active business consultants. During your course you will also have the opportunity to take a paid placement year in industry and study overseas at one of our partner universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe.
