Advertising BA (Hons)

Course Description

This degree, written by advertising practitioners, enables you to mark yourself out as a specialist in advertising management. It will prepare you well for a wide range of career opportunities in the exciting, fun, fast-paced and varied world of advertising; working in an advertising agency, the media or promotions department of an organisation. You will explore creative and contemporary aspects of advertising, customer behaviour, brand management and new media. You will explore psychological, operational and strategic aspects of advertising, branding and campaign planning and work as part of a real team for a live client. You will focus on the practical management of Advertising from both the client and agency perspectives. This means that you do not need a design or creative background. You will be encouraged to discover your own areas of greatest potential via an applied (real world) learning experience with hands-on practical assignments. You will develop a genuine passion for advertising and the skills to help you ‘make it’ in a highly competitive industry. Advertising is the most influential source of creative ideas in popular culture and the UK is considered a world centre for advertising. Our BA (Hons) degree in Advertising will signal to future employers your aspirations to become a dedicated marketing communications specialist. You will present as a strategist who understands customers and as a powerful, persuasive and adaptable communicator and motivator with the ability to work creatively, constructively, and collaboratively with others, particularly in team situations. You will also learn to think analytically and systematically; to make logical decisions; to interpret and use management information; to manage time, projects and resources; to be self-reliant; to use initiative and to champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business. This degree is taught by business practitioners; and by advertising experts with multinational experience (eg PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, 7Up, Shell, Tetrapak, Tropicana). During your course you will also have the opportunity to take a paid placement year in industry and study overseas at one of our partner universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe.
