This full-time course is designed to offer a first stage to applicants who do not hold the standard entry qualifications for a degree programme. The course aims to equip you with the academic, digital and personal skills required for successful study in higher education, and the opportunity to explore a range of disciplines in the social sciences, humanities and law. After successful completion of the Foundation Year you will be able to progress to a three year Specialist degree programme (eg. History) or Joint honours degree programme (eg. Sociology and Politics) choosing from a wide range of subjects such as: Media, Literature, English Language, Creative and Professional Writing, Film Studies, Philosophy, Linguistics, TESOL; Sociology, Social Policy, Religious Studies, History, Politics, War Studies, Deaf Studies; Law, Criminology, and Criminal Justice.

The Foundation Year will initially enable you to progress to a degree programme which will allow you to develop personally and professionally in order to reach your full potential. You will be able to pursue a degree in a field associated with: Law, Social Sciences, Humanities and Communications. Graduates from the School of Law, Social Sciences and Communication go on to do a wide range of activities including a career in teaching, local government or the private sector or the voluntary sector. Some have set up their own businesses, and others have pursued further studies at postgraduate level.
