BA (Hons) Law and Philosophy

Course Description

This course allows you to develop your critical thinking in relation to understanding legal and political change. This thought-provoking programme offers a stimulating and multicultural environment in which you can engage with concepts and theories within Philosophy and Law and reflect upon contemporary practical concerns. You will learn to communicate more effectively in writing and speaking, to evaluate arguments rigorously, and to enhance your own critical judgement. You will gain skills of analysis, synthesis and application which are relevant for whatever profession you decide to follow. A range of subject specific and transferable skills, including higher order conceptual and communication skills, enterprise, digital literacy and IT awareness, are also developed and are of immense value in graduate employment.

Career outcomes

A degree in Philosophy and Law will equip you with the skills needed in a range of occupations, including a career as a Legal Executive, company secretary or legal advisor. It is especially suited to enhancing your capabilities to take up advocacy and campaigning. Previous graduates have gone on to public and private-sector management jobs, local government and media and campaigning. If you aim to become a solicitor or barrister, you could study our CPE conversion course, or alternatively, go on to further study with one of our postgraduate courses.
