Ancient History Core modules in your first year will introduce you to the events and social and cultural trends that impacted the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds, while you’ll also have the chance to learn Latin or Ancient Greek. You’ll build on this knowledge over the next two years, deepening your understanding of political systems across the classical world as well as debates and methodologies in researching ancient history. You’ll also choose from a range of optional modules, before demonstrating the skills you’ve gained with an independently researched dissertation on a topic of your choice. Theology and Religious Studies Core modules in your first year will introduce methods and key questions in theology and religious studies. You’ll also choose modules on specific religious traditions or with a regional, methodological or thematic focus, such as Religion, Politics & Society. You’ll develop your knowledge over the next two years: a core module will place religion in context and you’ll choose optional modules covering diverse topics, from African religious practice to fieldwork with local religious communities. In your final year you’ll showcase your skills with an independent research project.

Studying for a Joint Honours degree allows you to gain an in-depth knowledge of two subjects and demonstrates that you’re intellectually versatile. Your degree will equip you with a wide range of skills across different disciplines that employers actively seek. You’ll have good research skills, and you’ll be able to analyse complex information from multiple sources before drawing your own conclusions. You’ll then be able to communicate and defend your views clearly, either verbally or in writing. In addition, you’ll have strong research and organisational skills and be confident working independently or in a team. All of these qualities are very attractive to employers, and graduates have pursued careers reflecting the diversity of their degrees. They’ve gone on to be successful in education, the media, law, publishing, the civil service, business and finance and the charity sector to name a few. Many others have also pursued postgraduate study.
