Applied Computer Science MEng, BSc

Course Description

Computing is used in all sectors and industries the world over. By studying Applied Computer Science at Leeds you learn not just the core areas (programming, algorithms, software engineering) but also the technologies and skills to apply computing to important problems in business, engineering, medicine and science. This degree course starts with the fundamentals of programming and algorithms. You will then explore their application in web technologies and data analytics and how technologies such as cloud and mobile computing can be used to solve existing and emerging IT challenges. Lectures are the primary form of teaching and these are supported by small-group sessions, workshops and laboratory sessions. Project work is used extensively at all levels to allow you to study individual topics in more depth. You will undertake both individual and group projects, which give you the opportunity to explore and develop essential skills such as problem solving, communications skills, time management and teamwork. Project work develops, as you progress through the course, from guided activities to role-based group work to individual research projects.

We have close links with companies such as IBM, Accenture and Hewlett Packard, and employers ranging from small/medium enterprises to large multi-nationals consistently target our graduates.
