BSc (Hons) Agriculture (Agricultural Science)

Course Description

Agricultural science is multidisciplinary in its application and relevance to crops, livestock and food production. The degree seeks to update and challenge you concerning new and emerging areas of science and technology and prepare you for the appropriate career expertise. Alongside the core agricultural modules (see table), the curriculum is designed to address the issues of topical concern including climate change, the growing global demand for food, rising input costs, higher standards of food quality, animal welfare, environmental protection, and the general challenge of enhancing agricultural productivity using more sustainable techniques. A range of emerging biotechnologies will be explored in support of achieving greater efficiency in agricultural systems. The final year specialist module, Developments in Agricultural Science, along with the final year dissertation, enables you to tailor your studies towards your area of interest. The 20-week work placement, or year in industry, in year two will provide valuable real-world experience in a relevant organisation.
