Advertising and Media BA (Hons)

Course Description

This Advertising and Media course will enable you to gain a wide range of knowledge, practical abilities and creative skills that cuts across advertising practices and media forms. You will learn the fundamentals of creative advertising; from designing and constructing advertisements and advertising campaigns to understanding core principles of the nature of branding and brand management, advertising ethics and regulation, theories and design, consumer psychology, advertising law and copy writing. Many of Northumbria’s academic staff have worked in the media and advertising professions and the course includes lectures from people working in the advertising industry. The course is delivered through a range of lectures, seminars and practical workshops as well as guided independent study. You will benefit from an advertising placement that provides invaluable industry experience and contacts. You will graduate with the core skills and knowledge needed to forge a career in contemporary advertising and media.

Graduates are well-equipped to work in a wide range of media professions including advertising, public relations, film production, distribution and exhibition, television production, arts administration and management, teaching, lecturing, events management, media administration, media research, publicity and promotion. Recent graduates have gained employment at Drummond Advertising, Ross Dawson Media, Different Ltd, Gratter Palm, Media Circus, Robert Walters Recruitment, HM Revenue and Customs, British Telecom and Saiko Productions. A recent graduate produced a branding project for the British Tea Company which resulted in her work being promoted on the London Underground, showing how students on the Advertising and Media programme can put their knowledge and skills into practice very rapidly and make their mark within the advertising world.
