BA (Hons) Creative Writing and History

Course Description

We’ll teach you how drafting, editing and polishing creative copy are all closely interlinked. You’ll learn how being self-critical of your work is one of the best editing tools for you as a writer. We’ll show you how you can improve your writing by responding positively to editorial comments as well. Writers need to be diverse enough to adapt to all sorts of writing styles and formats. Weekly workshops held as part of the course provide the perfect opportunity to practise. By the end of the course you’ll be able to turn your hand to anything - short stories and novels for children, adults and teenagers, life writing and poetry. We’ll also show you how to write for radio, TV and cinema. The History elements of the degree will help you discover the ways in which social, political and cultural changes have shaped our world. Incorporating original primary sources and visits to key historical sites, you will develop key skills such as research, analysis and communication. This course will support your personal interests and enhance your career development.
