BA (Hons) Families and Childhood Studies

Course Description

The community, children and families are at the heart of this course. With academic study and work experience at all levels in a variety of community-based settings, this course gives students opportunities to gain an excellent understanding of issues relating to children, young people and families and their holistic development. In response to local and national government agendas, including poverty, children’s rights and social inclusion, this degree takes a multi-agency approach to equip graduates for the changing dynamics within childhood, families and communities and growing career opportunities in this field. This course covers all the important aspects of working with children and families, including government legislation and how it affects provision. It investigates issues of health, welfare and development of the child, family and society, equipping graduates with transferrable skills for employment in a range of sectors. It also offers an alternative route into teaching. If you do not meet the requirements for the three year honours degree, you should consider BA (Hons) Families and Childhood Studies (four years including Foundation Year) this option is designed for students who may not have all the required grades/entry requirements for the ‘traditional’ degree course.
